Nature Education & Research

Palluyir Trust for Nature Education and Research was started with the intention of making place-based, nature-based and outdoor education a mainstream practice in schools, colleges and for the public in Chennai. They believe that these alternative pedagogies can go great work for the personal development of the child in developing human and ecological values and academic performance. The Trust was begun by naturalists who work with learners and educators from all social backgrounds and their core belief is that ecological and social justice are intertwined. Their idea for wellbeing of the Earth, the Child, and Community emerges from a shift away from colonial pedagogic cultures and hopes to come into education curricula and values.

Why they are the right choice for others:

  • Creating pedagogic resources and learning activities around nature education for all classes in the city of Chennai to help foster environmental stewardhship, strengthen academic learning and create rich learning spaces
  • Working with schools to build nature-based learning platforms to bolster traditional modes of instruction
  • Bringing environmental conversations to all aspects of pedagogy and children’s educational and development
  • A youth-led initiative to build communities
