Community based action research

PUKAR is an independent research collective and knowledge producing institution that works on multi sectoral, transdisciplinary and community based action research on issues related to urbanization and globalisation. Located in Mumbai, they conduct research through the lens of marginalised youth and how they transform themselves and their communities. They work with Community Based Participatory Action Research as an ethical instrument for knowledge production by marginalised youth, and focuses on youth given the large population of youth in India face multidimensional poverty. They recognise that to transform the developmental paradigm of urbanisation, we need to bring different knowledges to make the vision inclusive and sustainable.

Why they are the right choice for others:

  • Democratising research and respecting plurality and diversity by encouraging the importance of indigenous knowledge within communities led by urban youth.
  • Using participatory decision making and partnerships to work on urbanisation and its issues
