Artists unite

Ranga Shankara was built to honour actor Shankar Nag’s dream of creating a vibrant,
affordable space for the theatre community — both audiences and theatre makers. It was
opened in 2004 and has grown into a nerve centre for performance, a cultural institution
dedicated to theatre and theatre arts. RS showcases performances from India and abroad,
commissions and produces new and innovative theatrical productions, and creates outreach
programmes.

What excites us about their work:

  • Building and sustaining a cultural centre for the production and dissemination of the performance arts in accessible, affordable formats
  • Offers multilingual and regional arts an equal space with English, and nurtures up and coming talent and networks
  • Offers exposure for theatre communities to international players through festivals and workshops
  • Brings arts and culture to the cultural fabric of the city in a democratised manner.
