On fertile ground

Meaning “organization for the development of ecology and agriculture/livestock”, KRAPAVIS works to improve ecological, agricultural and livestock practices to ensure sustainable livelihoods for rural pastoral communities in Rajasthan. This is done through biodiversity conservation of sacred spaces or ‘orans’ through community participation and enhanced capacity of community members — especially women — to manage and maintain these areas. This work includes advocacy, and facilitating community understanding of forest and grazing rights. KRAPAVIS also works on outreach initiatives to inform pastoral communities on Orans biodiversity, promoting sustainable farming, supporting farmers and Panchayati raj institutions in ecological perspectives through MNREGA, and sustained vocational trainings for women and youth in the community.

Why are they the right choice for others:

  • Working on local-specific sacred ecological spaces and community ownership and management as a crux to work towards collaborative conservation between government and stakeholders through communication and strategy.
  • Training and management at the grassroots, community and national level for biodiversity conservation — strengthening people led movements, advocating via civil society and government for environmental preservation and poverty alleviation and volunteer work for disseminating information and training on ecological issues.
